Promoting Mechanical Music
By Steve Bentley

I attended the West Coast Ragtime Festival in Sacramento and this year,
like last year, there was a Wurlitzer Pianino displayed just inside the
entrance to the lobby on the left hand side. It could be played by
your coin.

It was an excellent event with the ragtime orchestras playing, just as
you could imagine, say, in 1914. Single pianos and double pianos were
playing too.

There is room for more mechanical music machines to be displayed, but
no room really for a loud player piano, as it would upset the live
performances in the five rooms located in the hotel. The one in the
lobby worked fine, because it was not near the live events.
