Preserving and Cataloging Old Parts
By Andy Taylor

Craig Roothoff asked in MMD 071123, "What if an organization such as
AMICA took up the task of promoting the preservation of mechanisms
removed from instruments and then catalogued them, ..."

I attempted that very thing on a small web site a few years back,
on www.freeyellow.com At first, there was some interest, but then hits
started tapering off. Also, I became involved in a divorce that put
a hold on everything for the next three years. When I did return to
the site, I found that freeyellow.com was not free (nor yellow) anymore,
and the entire site had been deleted.

I still think this is a good idea, and that it should be put on the
web, so here are some thoughts.

My first choice would be John Tuttle's player-care.com web site.
I'm not intending to volunteer Mr. Tuttle for any more work, however
I feel that his site would provide the most exposure. John has spent
many years building and promoting that site. If you do a search for
player piano, Player-care is always in the top three.

And as if Jody and Robbie don't have enough to do <chuckle>, perhaps
the MMD site? If it were sponsored by AMICA, I would be for that
providing that this doesn't become a "members only" thing.

Just pondering,
Andy Taylor
