Ampico Transmission Frame & Rubber Motor Mounts
By Don Teach

I make short runs of parts for brand specific player pianos as I need
the parts. I have made several hundred spools for Wurlitzer APP rolls,
Wurlitzer PianOrchestra spools, Seeburg parts, and other nickelodeon
parts for just about every well known restorer in the USA.

Some time back there was a request for Ampico rubber mounts. These
are the rubber cushions that are used on some late Ampico pumps and
motors starting in the late 1920s 'til the end of Ampico production.

My question is, what would you be willing to pay for these rubber
mounts? They used to sell for around $20.00 for a set of four in the
early 1980's according to an old PPCo catalog. I have an order for
eight of these mounts and, with the high cost of rubber today, it just
does not make sense to make them unless there is a real demand.

Ampico transmission frames seem to no longer be available. They used
to sell for $12.00 in 1983 in aluminum. In brass I think they may have
sold for $50.00. I do not think either are available today in any
material.

What would you pay today for an Ampico transmission frame cast in brass
with all the holes for the parts already machined? I have the patterns
to cast them in brass and my local foundry will do them for me in short
runs. They will not be as smooth as the originals but can be buffed
out to look good. My other option is to have them cast by a company
that does sculptures at a much higher cost.

Please give you opinion and also state if you are a serious buyer or
tire kicker.
