Duo-Art vs. Ampico
By Brad Hunter

Hello MMD readers! Which piano system would be better for me:
Duo-Art or Ampico? I am interested in buying my first reproducing piano.
I have a number of coin pianos but have never owned a reproducer. It is
not my intent to start a riot here, but I really don't know which brand
to look at. Popular music is what I listen to mostly, but I do like
some classical music also.

Which system has the most music rolls available (both old rolls and
recuts)? I have read some past MMD posts about problems getting
recuts from Keystone Music Roll Co.

What are the positives and negatives of each system? Which system
is most lifelike in it's reproduction? Which piano system has the
most range?

I am looking for a high-end piano like Steinway in a Duo-Art or
similar high-end piano in an Ampico. Since space is a problem
I will consider an upright or small grand model.

I do not wish to spend big money here; no $50k-$60k pianos. Will
consider an older restored or un-restored piano, upright or grand.
I do not mind doing some restoration work on the pneumatics, action,
or case veneer/refinishing! I would appreciate any thoughts or
opinions on each brand...

If anyone has a piano that they think I could restore and enjoy
please let me know!

Thank You
