Polyphon Disc Bin
By Mike Moran

Hi, Would anyone be able to give me some information on a Polyphon
disc bin that I have not seen referenced anywhere in mechanical music
books and some Polyphon and other music box catalogs.

The bin is for large format discs, up to 30 inches; some 25-inch
Polyphon discs were in the box when found. It is not the usual disc
bin that one finds with uprights, as this one has a lid that opens from
the top (i.e. the top is the lid). Inside the box are about 30 wood
divisions for individual discs. It measures 32x32x40 inches (Length x
Breadth x Height).

From a design or functional point of view it's not very useful, as it
takes up a tremendous space just for disc storage, without the benefit
of being able to put a machine or anything else on top of it. It is
also very heavy, even when unloaded, and has metal casters that would
not really go well with good flooring.

If you like to see a picture for a better idea of how it looks, please
email. As it came out of a derelict barn, it does need 'some' work to
bring it back to presentable condition! For example, half a side of
veneer is missing, gluing back of various parts is needed, and there
is water or worm damage on the rear panel.

Many thanks
Mike Moran
