Kimball Electronic Player Motor Control Problem
By Bill Maguire

I always pedal and or turn the player on _before_ tuning, in case
someone tries to pull a "fast one" on me (which has happened before)
or is unaware that it is broken (which also has happened to me).
I even unplug these players (Kimball, Wurlitzer, Universal, etc.)
otherwise I could short out something by mistake.

I know the proper way to pivot the upper mechanism out of the way
of the tuning pins. When I got there to tune the player, there was
a roll in the piano (already played halfway through) and it played
well, rewound and shut off, etc.

My problem is when I push the "Play" button the roll starts going
forward, but when the paper lifts the spoon lever it rewinds and shuts
off instead of continuing forward and playing like a "nice, well
behaved, cooperative" player piano would.

I will be telling people in the future, "I'm competent to tune
these players, I will take _every_ precaution and I'm not taking
responsibility should the player not work when I'm done tuning."
I'll likely still get the job, being that there are so few others
around here who can tune these players.

Is anyone familiar with Kimball electronics? I am "electronically
challenged" myself and can't find technical information. There is
absolutely nothing on Kimball electronic players in the MMD Archives.
Thanks in advance.

Bill Maguire
