Age of Symphonion Musical Box
By Don Caine

Hi Denis, Re your MMD posting: I don't know if someone out there in
cyberspace has mechanical music box serial number documentation on
Symphonion (Leipzig, Germany, approx. 1885-1920, later made
electrically driven phonographs) and briefly in New York/New Jersey
(approx. 1895-1900).

You might want to check with Jens Wendel at MMM in Germany as I believe
they purchased the Symphonion name and remaining inventory/machinery
and are still producing a disc player under the Kalliope/Symphonion
brand.

What I can tell you is that, in all likelihood, your 4-1/2" Symphonion
musical clock was made around 1900-1905. The number 20 refers to the
size of the disc that it used rather than the model number of the
clock. (See "Encyclopedia of Automatic Musical Instruments", by
Q. David Bowers, page 214-216, for photo and other information.)

Please let me know if I may be of any further service to you, or your
friends and family, for music box parts or repair/restoration services.

Most sincerely,
