Vinyl Decals
By John Vallings

[ Ref. 100108 MMDigest, Finish on Gem Roller Organ ]

Making vinyls of any colour or size is not very difficult. Take
a picture of the originals (if a bit dirty or broken it does not
matter), and measure the height and length. Then go to your reputable
sign writer who will have a programme on his computer to transfer your
pictures to the right size and then ask his vinyl cutter to do the
rest, just as he would when writing on a truck door or shop front.

Choose the vinyl of your choice. I often use a semi-gloss old gold
colour. Some of the decorations were silver, but with time the shellac
tends to go dark and gold colour results.

Obviously you remove the original decorations before sticking on the
new ones. They are self-adhesive but have to be very well pressed on,
with all air bubbles removed, before taking off the top paper to reveal
a real masterful job.

Good luck -- give it a try. Contact me again if you have more queries.
Note: I also redo the maker's name on the name board in the same way
when restoring reed organs.
