Duo-Art Accordion Expression Pneumatics
By Jon Page

[ Ref. Dave Geissinger in 101015 MMDigest ]

Thanks, Dave, for this data. So there is agreement that the gap on
#8 dynamic is 5/8 inch (.625"). However, there is a disagreement on
the remaining gaps affecting the full-open position by 3/16" (.187").
So may I surmise than an appropriate range for its open position is
3-5/16 inch (3.313") to 3-1/2 inch (3.5"). My initial measurement of
3-7/16 inch (3.437") is within that range.

In a conversation with someone, 3.313" was recommended to ensure
that if the boards are not glued perfectly parallel they could hit
the linkage on top if expanded lopsidedly. Someone else privately
recommended 3.5". So, so far the score is even 2:2; 3.313 to 3:3.5.

I will be covering the expression pneumatics with light pneumatic cloth
and then again with thin pouch leather to keep them quieter and to look
as they did originally, following a recommendation. This will add the
strength of the cloth with added protection of the outer covering.

On a side note, support MMD! I'll be making a contribution as soon as
I fire this off...

PS I'm working on a web site, so please visit to increase hits and
offer recommendations or problems with viewing. I'll put up a piano
disposal video soon while I fix a reported dysfunction.
