Player Pianos in the Movies
By S. Lee Walker

In the 1953 John Ford Movie, "Magambo," starring Clark Gable,
in the scene in the living room actresses Ava Gardner and Grace Kelly
are playing a player piano and singing. However, if you look at the
keyboard the keys are not moving and I not sure if the music roll is
turning. Probably there was no music roll to fit the occasion; it
was used as a prop.

In the 1952 film "The Music Man," with Robert Preston, in the gymnasium
scene a woman is playing a player piano.

In the 1960 film "North to Alaska," with John Wayne, in the fight in
the saloon you will see an orchestra player piano. However, it not
being played.
