BluesTone 137019 Recut of "Ragtime Oriole"
By Nicholas Simons

I have a copy of the BluesTone roll, "Ragtime Oriole" by James Scott.
It is a copy of the original Artempo 1898, played by Steve Williams,
pseudonym of Ernest L Stevens.

 [ "137019 Ragtime Oriole (James Scott) $13
[ "played by Steve Williams (originally issued on Artempo 1898)
[ "Jasen & Tichenor describe this rag very well and point out tricks
[ in the "A" section alluding to the Novelty rag style - already in
[ 1911! Williams takes every repeat and follows the printed score
[ closely, but adds just the right amount of his own embellishments
[ to make this an excellent hand-played roll. A fine, lilting rag
[ classic by one of the masters."
