Wurlitzer 165 Heard on "Catch The Brass Ring"
By David Haibach

Hello Folks, Listening to some of my sound archives prompted this
question:

Whose Wurlitzer 165 band organ played on the two recordings from Harold
Powell in 1990, "Catch The Brass Ring" and "Catch Another Brass Ring"?
The album merely lists the organ as in the hands of a prominent
Mid-west collector.

I ask this because of the superb job that Harold did at Klavier Music
in capturing this organ in the pristine condition it was apparently in.

This was also apparently a late model 165 because the bass drum had
a tympani effect installed and a crash cymbal that sounded definitely
original. To me these were the premier 165 recordings of that time,
and are still benchmarks in my opinion.

I wonder if Matthew or anyone else may venture input on this...

Regards,
Dave Haibach
