Grand Piano Truck Dolly for Double Leg Ampico
By John Dewey

I have a customer who has a grand piano with an Ampico player. It has
the double legs that are approximately 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in diameter
at the floor with no casters. She wishes to be able to move the piano
around the room, which has hardwood flooring, when she hosts recitals
in her home.

I am considering a grand piano truck similar to Schaff cat. no. 4012.
I would replace each of the leg cups on the truck with a pieces of
steel bar, 0.5 inch (1.27 cm) thick by 3 inch (7.6 cm) wide, that would
be long enough to catch both of the double legs. I would weld rings to
the top of the plate for the legs to nest in so they would not slide
off the plate. Does anyone have any suggestions or better ideas?

John Dewey, Penfield, Illinois

[ Visiting pianists may prefer that the pedals be close to the floor,
[ in which case you could extend the pedal lyre after the piano is
[ placed on the truck dolly. This would also increase the clearance
[ for the pianist's legs beneath the drawer. Look into double casters
[ for the truck dolly that will distribute the extra weight of the
 [ reproducing grand. -- Robbie
