Lost Persons, Forgotten Names: Ray Siou
By Steve Bentley

I phoned Ray Siou about three months ago, and he appeared to sound well
over the phone. I will call him again to mention news of how player
pianos, etc. are surviving in this present day, as he won't have access
to the MMD like we do to get the current drift of what is happening.

I visited his place many times in Oakland in the 1980's. The outside
of the building had the paint peeling off. When I mentioned that, he
said that if the place looks too good on the outside, then people will
think that there is something valuable inside worth stealing.

He was right about that. It was not in the best part of town. But
what came out of there was a good music roll business, second to none.
