Aeolian "Sting" Player Piano Troubleshooting
By Arthur Marino

I have the dubious distinction of having attended Aeolian Player
University back in the late 1970s. It was a five-day course at the
Aeolian player piano factory in Memphis. I actually learned quite
a bit; any other alumnus out there?

If the roll played with pumping and barely moves with electric power,
try moving the volume control knob in the spool box. If properly
adjusted it will be Low, Medium and High.

Or, the upper spool brake is way too tight. Try lifting it up and see
if the roll moves faster, try putting a drop of oil on it, or hit the
spring with a hammer (really!).

We learned a neat trick with the trackers. Remove the little spring,
reverse the cam against the roll end and reverse the T bar tubing.
This makes the tracker center on re-roll and lessens the chance of
ripping rolls.
