Seek Electrified Player Piano in New York City
By Herb Lindahl

Hello MMD, Below is an email I received from a gentleman from Seattle.
I also spoke with him on the phone, and his idea is both unique and of
interest to our mechanical music community.

Hopefully, some one in the Greater New York City area can provide him
with some leads on a player piano suitable for his needs. Thank you.

"Hi, my name is Ben Chaykin. I live in Seattle, Washington, and
I work at a creative agency called Digital Kitchen. I'm currently
working on a job involving a player piano that can take song requests
from the public over the Internet. I built this system last summer
with an old Grinnel Bros. upright player piano by installing a Virtual
Roll and computer into the piano. I'm writing to you today because
at the end of the month I am looking to build another system just like
this in New York City.

"Herb Lindahl has graciously offered to forward this note from me
to you in hopes to help me on my quest. I'm trying to hunt down and
purchase an upright, non-spinet style, electric powered, fully working,
rubber tubed player piano in New York City or the surrounding area.
Cosmetics of the exterior (or even interior, for that matter) is not
a concern to me. I'm simply looking for a functioning, Virtual Roll
compatible player piano. I'm hoping to purchase this piano, arrange
pickup and relocation, and begin working on it in New York City when
I arrive on May 22nd to install the system.

"I found the Grinnel Bros. piano from last year's installation for
a great price on Craigslist in Seattle. I would use Craigslist again
to find a piano in New York City, but I have no way of visiting and
testing the mechanics of a piano in New York City. I'm hoping one of
you may already know of a working player piano for sale. I am hesitant
on putting a budget cap on this purchase, because at the end of the
day, I really need a [player] piano to get this job done. Just keep
in mind that I'm not looking for a mint condition piano. If you know
of a piano that sounds right for me, please contact me with my info
below. Thank you all so much!"
