Red Tubing in Welte Licensee
By David Dewey

Hi all, In going over my Welte Licensee (in an Acoustigrande small
grand piano) I noticed that the flexible tubes connecting the drawer
to the stack, etc., are a thick-walled red rubber tubing. The rest
of the piano is the normal, very brittle tubing I'm used to seeing.

The red tubing is still flexible, although it has lost its holding
power -- it doesn't really grip the brass nipples. I had always
assumed this is some replacement tubing done by someone decades ago.
The player part looks untouched except for this red tubing.

The owner I purchased it from said that, when she first got it, the
belly cloth was in place but her cat tore it up so she took it off.
(I wish she had saved the cloth for a pattern, though!) Which brings
up another question, is the belly cloth usually trimmed with an edging?

So, is this original? Does anyone know? Information on Welte systems
seems to be less abundant than that for the Ampico or Duo-Art systems.

Thanks!
David Dewey
