How to Distinguish Good Leather from Bad Leather
By Luke Myers

Hello, How can one distinguish the difference between good, supple,
airtight leather on a foot pump and leather that is dry, rotted, and
leaks like crazy? I have heard that one can shine a light through
the leather, and if there are tons of pinholes with light coming
through, then the cloth is bad.

The leather on my "new" H. C. Bay foot pump seems to be in good
condition -- it's supple, and seems to have all the qualities of
being fine, but I want to make sure.
