Collectors and the California Fires
By Chris Galantine

Regarding Doug Bullock's inquiry in 181116 MMDigest about if any
collections were lost in the California wildfires, I'll report mine
as a near total loss in the Redding Carr Fire.

One of my friends remarked that while his parents' burnt house had
little remains to show, my ashes were lumpy with the remnants of
misshapen piano harps, radio chassis, 15" speaker frames, soda
fountain chairs, and phonograph horns. Nothing much survived except
cast iron and even some of that warped.

Luckily I had a National/AMI nickelodeon offsite, but all of my best
stuff was incinerated. Insurance itemization and documentation is
the next hurdle.

I haven't heard of any other AMICA/MBSI members that were in the
Carr fire (Redding) or Camp fire (Paradise), but Paradise had been my
favorite antique hunting location since the 1980's due to the large
amount of people who retired there as well as it was a historical
out-of-the-way area.
