Registration Instructions For My Band Organ Rolls
By Andrew Lardieri

Since the 3rd Wurlitzer 165 roll I commissioned this year (6900), all
ten tunes on my next rolls for the future years (starting with first
titled roll "Simon & Garfunkel Classics" for 2020), will be carefully
typed out on Microsoft Word by myself so that Glenn Thomas and Andy
Park get a clearer more broad understanding of which 165 scale registers
I would like to have play on each particular verse and chorus of that
particular tune.

This is in part due to my extensive knowledge of the structure of
Western music and my gift of being born with perfect pitch. Over the
years during my childhood and school years, I have studied a number
of various musical instruments including bagpipes, piano, trombone,
and xylophone. If you would like to learn more about my Wurlitzer 165
roll market participation and my musical knowledge before I became a
member of AMICA back in 2014, please read my upcoming article in the
2019 September/October edition of the AMICA Bulletin.

As an example here's the layout for the arrangement of the first tune on
my commissioned roll for 2020, the very popular "The Sound Of Silence".

Opening Arpeggios:

- Please have just the flutes and bells and Uniphone bells (166 only).
No other pipes nor percussion play this part to make it more haunting
yet soothing like the original Simon & Garfunkel recording.

First Verse And Chorus, "Hello darkness my old friend":

 - Same exact registers as listed in for the opening arpeggios until
the start of the verse "Because a vision softly creeping and then into"
then add the other pipes (trumpets violins etc. No other percussion
yet (snare, bass, castanets, triangle etc.).

Second Verse And Chorus, "In restless dreams I walked alone":

 - After the first chorus "within the sound of silence" to proceed
into the next verse, the snare drum and castanets should do a one quick
strike and click together simultaneously. At the very start after the
first three words in the next verse "In restless dreams", have the
snare drum do two short staccato strikes which will give a cue into
the other percussive registers (snare drum, bass drum, crash cymbals)
no bells, castanets, or triangle needed as it would be like putting
a huge dollop of butter or molasses into to the arrangement, slowing
it down.

Third verse "And in the naked light I saw, 10,000 people maybe more":

 - At the starting verses only, "And in the naked light I saw, 10,000
people maybe more," please have the pipes play while the triangle dings
eight times on every 2nd and 4th beat (example:

"And in the naked <ding> light I saw <ding><ding><ding> ten thousand
people <ding> maybe more <ding><ding><ding>" (no bells, drums, castanets,
cymbals etc.). The triangle will cease dinging when it gets to the verse,
"People talking without speaking."

 - For the verses and chorus, "People talking without speaking" etc.,
please have the all the pipes and drums play only (no bells, castanets
nor triangle).

Fourth verse "'Fools!' said I, you do not know, silence like a cancer
grows":

 - Please have all the percussion (minus castanets, triangle, woodblock
(166 only),) play with bells and Uniphone bells (166 only) on all
throughout this verse and chorus.

 - To get a great start to the verse "'Fools!' said I", please have the
bells play while the snare drum does two more staccato strikes like at
the start of the first three words in the second verse.

Fifth and final verse "And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god
they made":

 - Same registers as the fourth verse and chorus.

 - For the ending, where it says the final "In the sound of silence,"
please have the organ slow in tempo like in the original recording. For
the fading out arpeggios please have just the flutes play; no other
registers needed.

Note: Expect more tunes from this planned roll to be posted on
