FS: Welte Philharmonic 2/10 Player Pipe Organ
By Dave Krall

I have for sale a Welte Philharmonic 2/10 player pipe organ. It is
not complete. It is missing the blower, swell shades and some of the
pipework. These are all replaceable.

There is a beautiful walnut console (and matching bench) with roll
player, the special "stops reversible" machine that turns stops on
automatically from the roll, the Pedal reverse machine which duplexes
the 30 notes of the Pedal with the bottom 30 notes of the Great on the
tracker bar, and the swell shade operator which is controlled from the
roll.

There are 10 ranks of unit chests (4-rank, 5-rank and a single-rank
chest for the Vox), the offset chests, the large regulator and 2 trems,
the Harp and most of the erecting lumber. There are 2 sets of 3-blade
shades but no motors, as well as 2 sets of 5-blade motors but no shades,
and a 7-blade motor but no shades. The original Welte chimes are
missing but I have a Kimball set to go with the organ.

Welte player organs were single chamber installations and any brand of
swell shades will work, i.e. Kimball, Barton, Wurlitzer, Morton, Möller.
This organ was originally built for the Commercial Club of Los Angeles
but never installed. It sat in Barker Brothers warehouse for a year
(Barker Bros. was an upscale home furnishing store that was the Welte
agency for southern California) and then sold and installed in the home
of Mr. & Mrs. John Way of Pasadena. It was on this organ that Edwin H.
Lemare got to hear for the first time the Welte rolls he recorded back
in Freiburg in 1913.

This organ dates from the R. P. Elliot era and so is almost identical
to a Kimball in design -- very high quality. The reeds are Welte built.
The Vox is complete but the Trumpet and English Horn are missing pipes.
The Diapason (which is complete) and the strings are Gottfried. It has
a pair of Gemshorns, one of which is complete. The other Gemshorn, the
Salicional and the Solo Viol are missing their 8' octaves. There are 2
wood Flutes, 1 set missing the 8' octave and the other set missing the
bottom 6 pipes of the 8' octave. I believe I know where replacements
can be had.

Included with the organ are two of the amazing Welte 10-roll changers
as well as a substantial collection of over 200 rolls. The music on the
Welte Philharmonic rolls is spectacular and is probably the best of all
the player organs.

I know of some Welte parts of the correct vintage which are available
and other missing parts can be fabricated.

This would be a splendid home installation for someone. It is not so
big as to be overwhelming to rebuild, but is big enough to sound really
good, and the music on the Welte rolls is exceptional. The pipes are on
7" wind and a 3 HP 10" pressure blower would be more than adequate for
it. In addition, I have an extra 61-note chest and a Kimball Clarinet
on 7-1/2" wind to go with it.

Price is $ 3,500.00
