Simon & Garfunkel & Wurlitzer 165 Rolls for 2020
By Andrew Lardieri

As many of us are still sadly stuck at home with nothing to do due to
the ongoing COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic, it hasn't at least affected
the ongoing market for Wurlitzer 165 rolls and three new rolls have
been released including one commissioned by myself as always since
around three years ago, 2017. Each roll includes a variety of tunes
that you may all recognize and enjoy.

The roll I commissioned this year, given the number 6902, was
originally going to be an all "Simon & Garfunkel" roll but was later
turned down because of marketing issues. But don't wear the frown --
tunes 1 and 2 of my original choices for the roll, "The Sound Of
Silence" and "Mrs. Robinson", have been approved to stay on the roll,
while the other suggestions have been approved to be MIDI files which
will be commissioned later on this year.

However, I have been able to stack together a few other popular tunes
that appeal to collectors. This year's annual carousel roll, 6903,
is actually a joint roll arranged by the two wonderful talents of
Andy Park and well-remembered virtuoso arranger Rich "Richie Poor"
Olsen (specifically tunes 4, 7 & 10).

And finally roll 6904, commissioned by John Malone, is a mix of
well-known classic tunes including two that were previous arranged
by long-time Glen Echo Park carousel operator Max Hurley on his
"Herb Alpert/Tijuana Brass" roll numbered 6824.

I am absolutely pleased to always have the opportunity since 2017 to
work with the talent that is Andy Park along with Glenn Thomas, John
Malone and Matthew Caulfield. I am looking forward to next year for
my 5th commissioned roll in 2021, pandemic or no pandemic!
