Sealing a Wood Tracker Bar
By Roger Wiegand

I'm finally busy rebuilding my Aeolian grand player reed organ.
It has been a 20-year project so far. I have reached the point of
working on the spool box.

This organ has a wooden tracker bar and the connection to the brass
nipples in the back is completely enclosed in glued-together wood.
When I seal the tracker bar with tape and suck on the brass nipples
in the back there is significant airflow from each channel. I assume
this is the result of cross talk between the various channels.

It would seem that sealing the channels would make a lot of sense.
I am concerned, however, about blocking tiny and inaccessible passages
inside this sealed device. Does anyone have advice as to (a) whether
this is a good idea, and (b) how to do it? Is flooding with shellac
the right idea, or some more modern material?

[ Maybe the top and bottom halves could be separated so that their
