Organ Clock by Coenraad Ludwig Leib at Waddesdon
By Kasper Janse

Hello Jody, There is a very interesting automatic instrument at
Waddesdon Manor. There is information (in Dutch) about it in our
website:

https://www.pianola.nl/Pianola_Museum/Coenraadt_Ludwig_Leib.html

This organ clock was built by Coenraad Ludwig Leib [Conrad Ludwig
Leib] who was born in 1769 in Berlin. He died in Amsterdam, 1800.
In his workshop in Amsterdam (ca. 1790-1800) he has built many
instruments of this type in the style of instruments built by
Kleemeyer and others.

When Leib died his workshop was probably taken over by the famous
Dietrich Nikolaus Winkel, who built the most sophisticated barrel
organ in the world: The Componium, which is now in the Musical
Instruments Museum (MIM) in Brussels. Winkel was also the inventor
of the Metronome, which invention was stolen by Maelzel.

Although Leib has built many instruments, three which I know of are
in the UK, and only one instrument in private hands in Holland.
