Beethoven's Metronome
By Mark Kinsler

I don't know if this topic has been discussed here previously, but
there's a long-running discussion concerning the speed at which Ludwig
Von Beethoven expected his music to be played. The metronome markings
on his scores seem far too fast, and it also seems that he was the
first composer to employ the device. It seemed a natural topic to bring
up here, so here is the latest bit:

(My apologies for the language used in an unrelated article also
included here; I suppose that standards have changed.)
