Seek Plans for Wicks Free Reed Bass Box
By William Frisk

[ Ref. 210116 MMDigest, Decap "Reed Box" Saxophone

In 060401 MMDigest there was a request for plans or information on the
free reed bass boxes used by Wicks to save space in small pipe organs.
The writer wanted to use one in a small band organ, although they are
not as loud as the pipework.

I have a similar need to build one for a small band/fair organ. I have
direct electric magnets similar to the Wicks type. Would anyone have
sketches of a successful one or pictures of a Wicks Organ one? I should
be able to make one but do not want to invent one (if you know what
I mean!).

Pressure harmonium reeds are available from India for about $40.00 for
a set and would give the 8- and 4-foot voices with a few extras left
over. That would give 4-foot helpers to play in unison with the 8-foot
bass. They have slots for mounting screws at both ends of the frames.
The Deep Bass sets give the needed reeds.

Thank you to anyone that can help get this project going.
