Preserving Old Duo-Art Rolls
By Andreas Wagner

Here's my dilemma: when I purchased my Steck PEDA, it came with a bunch
of rolls. Most of them were original, USA-made rolls.

As I tried to play my way through the rolls, it became clear that they
had sustained damage of one sort or another. The metal spool ends on
most rolls have some corrosion on the inside face where they touch the
paper. Where there are black marks along the edges (from the corrosion)
the paper is incredibly brittle, more so than the already brittle paper
of the roll. The corroded surfaces aggravate the problem in that they
tear the brittle paper.

After more or less shredding a couple of rolls I left them to one
side, wondering if there was anything to be done to preserve these
rolls. I've not come up with any solution as yet, so am putting this to
you all. Do you know of any process which would strengthen the paper?

If there's nothing to be done, could they or should they be scanned?
Is there anywhere a database of already-scanned Duo-Art rolls, so as
not to duplicate titles which have already been scanned?

Best wishes from southern France,
Andreas Wagner
