New Buffalo Carousel Building To Open Memorial Day
By Mike Walter

At the Eastern end of Lake Erie, in the City of Buffalo, in the
area where there was once much national and international traffic and
business, the Buffalo fathers have designated an area, "Canalside",
which will utilize underused acreage to bring residents and visitors
together to learn and have a good time.

Besides having ships on display (the "biggest" draw), they have
decided to build a carousel building and restore and install inside the
De Angelis Menagerie Carousel, originally the Buffalo Heritage Carousel,
manufactured by The Spillman Engineering Corporation of North Tonawanda,
in 1924. See https://www.buffaloheritagecarousel.org/

Buffalo and its environs established many businesses that had an
important part in the development of this growing country. At one
point the [neighboring] City of North Tonawanda had four of the most
productive band organ companies for the whole United States within
a five-mile radius.

And, of course, no carousel would be complete without an original
band organ providing music for the riders and for those strolling by.
That musical entertainment will be provided by a Wurlitzer Style 153
Band Organ which has been rebuilt and is ready to play music.

This project is funded by a number of civic-minded organizations that
include The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, New York State, City
of Buffalo, Erie County, State of New York Assembly, State of New York
Senate, Key Bank, Tesla, Margaret L. Wendt Foundation, Niagara First
Foundation, Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, Niagara River Greenway,
and Russell Salvatore Foundation.

The extended article link [below] has a number of articles about various
aspects to the project. The lead article deals with the roof of the
carousel building providing solar energy to the building, being donated
by Tesla, one of our important Buffalo companies. Check out the link.
I'm sure that you will enjoy what you see.
