FS: Mason & Hamlin Welte Mignon T-100
By John McClelland

For sale: Offered for your consideration is my 1913 Mason and Hamlin
Art Case upright T100 Welte Mignon reproducing piano. Two hundred
were made, it's one of nine known to exist. I purchased it from Bill
Edgerton, Darien, Connecticut, in 1981. I believe I am the second owner.

The case is walnut veneer, in 'as new' condition: no chips or damaged
corners. The finish is original, like it came from the factory: no
crazing or fading. A custom-made full body Naugahyde fitted cover
has protected it for the past 80 or so years

This piano is a transition instrument, using both German and American
made parts. The stack, 5-point wind motor and 4-cylinder rotary pump
are American, along with the single unit expression carrier and support
stirrups used on later Licensee pianos. The single expression valve
unit was made in Freiburg, with German identification of the various
valve functions stamped in the wood cover.

The instrument was completely restored in 2014: the stack was rebuilt
and pneumatics recovered (striking and expression), bottom board
reglued, new electrical wiring installed, vacuum pipes wrapped with
pouch leather, piano action tightened, lubricated and adjusted. The
piano action was rebuilt in 2004: new hammers were fitted and voiced.
An itemized description of work done is available upon request. The
piano has played less than 25 hours since restoration.

The piano plays standard Welte T100 rolls. It is fitted with Spencer
Chase's E-Roll Player System, installed in 2005. A laptop IBM computer
plays E-Roll files of Welte rolls with full expression. A library of
approximately 4,000 E-Roll files, popular and classical, is included,
featuring approximately 3200 Welte files, as well as numerous 88-note
standard MIDI files from turn of the century to the 1930's.

The piano currently is at Josh Rapier's shop in Riverside, California.
Please contact him for a more thorough description of its condition:

I am entertaining offers around $5,000, until May 5th. Any additional
charges are the buyer's responsibility.
