Cooperman Drums will make proper new skin heads of any size
for a very reasonable price. They can use your flesh hoop if you
have it or they can provide a new one made to your measurements.
Turnaround is quick and the product looks and sounds great.
Skin heads last a very long time in normal use (e.g., 100+ years)
so I wouldn't shy away from them.

[ "First of all, _nothing else_ sounds or feels like a calf head, period.
[ Part of the reason, aside from the obvious material difference, is
[ that calf head conform to anything. The collar is formed when the
[ head is mounted on the drum, usually while still damp, and form-fits
[ the bearing edge, regardless of it's profile or inaccuracy (much in
[ the same way the girls used to put on damp jeans back in the 70's
[ and 80's, for the same reason!). Anyway, this makes a huge sonic
[ difference, thicker and richer."
