The museum had a call last week from a woman who was putting a box of
piano rolls in the trash. After convincing her that I would come pick
them up and therefore that she didn't have to do that I drove out and
retrieved a few boxes of unknown rolls.
One of the museum's volunteers has been inventorying our music roll
library (a process that you will hopefully hear more about in the
future). As she was inventorying this new donation, though, we found
two odd pieces tucked into a standard box. They are two 'Little Wonder'
piano rolls.
The museum has a 'Little Wonder' phonograph and a small collection
of 'Little Wonder' records for it but I was unaware of any rolls made
by the brand. The only information I could find online was an old MMD
post confirming my suspicion that these were indeed made under the
same name as the records because of the popularity they experienced.
I am writing to see if anyone has any additional information regarding
these pieces, who manufactured them and what compositions they used?
The rolls are
139 'My Croony Melody' -- Goodwin & Goetz
335 'Loading up the Mandy Lee' -- Marshall
I have not yet tested them out on any of our players as I am afraid to
damage them through improper use although I assume they would play on
any standard 88-note piano. Any information is appreciated!
Cheers,
