I am curious to find out additional information on the Mills Race
Horse Piano. The museum has an example of this piece in the collection
and it is always a highlight of tours for visitors.
Recently (and understandably so) the horses have begun to act up,
likely due to a lack of proper maintenance over the years. The music
machine still plays well but many times the horses will refuse to run.
As this machine is rare I have a hard time finding any information on
it. Does anyone else own one and what maintenance do you perform on it?
Does anyone have more concrete numbers on how many of this model
was produced? I have heard everything from less than 12 to 50 or 100.
I would be grateful for any information!
Cheers,
