I have a project I'm hoping the hive mind here can help me with!
I bought a carousel powered by a small musical box movement which
is clearly labelled Reuge. When I got the carousel it was in dire
need of cleaning and rehabilitation, and the music box was barely
running and nearly inaudible.
As I have been disassembling, cleaning, and refreshing the whole
carousel, the movement now plays well enough; however, I have no idea
what the song is!
The movement also has what looks like a cast iron base. In that base,
the code "AR 28 R" is inscribed. My count says it is a twenty-nine
note movement, which seems odd to me. It looks like one of the teeth
in the comb is at least as wide as two of the other teeth. Multiple
attempts to get the Internet to tell me anything about this movement
have proved futile.
I've attached images of the movement from the top and bottom, as well
as a sound clip. Please pardon the sound quality; that's as good as
it gets right now...
Any information about the movement would be welcome, as I have no
idea how old it or the carousel it drives are. I would love to know
more about this unusual, at least to me, little movement.
Thank you in advance,
Monica Jones
