FS: 1912 Conway Simplex Player Piano in New York
By Piotr Barcz

I'm disposing of my collection of instruments, save for one grand,
and one of them is my 1912 Conway player piano.

The player action was restored in 2006 and still plays strong (it
isn't a fan of rolls with small punch diameter but not a problem
usually) and the piano itself has been refinished.

The steel wound bass strings are original, the pinblock is in good
shape, the treble wire still sounds good, the hammers have been
voiced down. It's got a bit of a square grand tone to it at the moment,
which I find nice for most things. I've attached a recording of it.
It plays nice by hand, too, and the action isn't very heavy either.

The player action is strong, doesn't require fast pumping -- though
someone removed the right reservoire, maybe it was to be electrified?
I dunno -- and it's _very_ dynamic. Sustain is controlled by linkage,
not by a pneumatic, which is phenomenal for me. Tracking is manual
as the piano is just that old but it hasn't been a problem for me and
that allows damaged rolls to be played, too.

The pinblock is solid and the piano is tuned to A442 European Concert
Pitch. The recording I attached was made after moving the piano across
the house and it was tuned a few months prior in June I think.

Instrument is located in Willsboro, New York, on the first floor of my
house and it shouldn't be hard to get out of there. The casters really
suck, unfortunately, but it can be rolled out the east door which is
where it came in -- not a difficult move in the least but whoever wants
it has to do the arrangements. Chris Rawson is my piano mover and I
can't recommend his services enough: https://www.rawsonfamilypianos.com/
He also did the voicing and the first tuning on the piano.

Considering the piano's nice as it stands -- the player action was
restored and plays well, the piano was refinished, and has had work
done on it since -- I'm asking $600 for it but I'm open to negotiating.

I do in the end want this piano to go to someone who will use it and
who could give it a proper restoration down the line so it can have
the life I couldn't give it. If it's not gone by the end of November
(I'll be back in the states as of November first) then I'm paying Chris
to take it and he'll either put it in his shop and sell it or send it
to the dump.

Note: the keyslip is warped a little so it makes keys stick; it's off
the piano right now but will be put back on if I can get it back on.

I also have a 1929 Aeolian that really needs to go. The piano itself
was also refinihsed, sounds fine, feels alright to play. It's really
nothing remarkable. Player system doesn't really function as the stack
has a few dead notes but the tracking device is totally dead. The
airmotor needs work too.

The pumps leak but I already put a hole in an access panel to mount
a one-way valve for a turbine pump. If the stack is repaired (the wind
motor, tracker, the couple dead notes -- the whole stack was already
redone years ago and quite well too), then this thing will run fine
on a turbine pump with relatively low speed, too.

Kind of got myself scammed with it and paid $400 for it and I have
no idea if anyone would pay the same for it. That's what I'm asking
I suppose but I'm totally willing to work out a price with whomever
is interested.

I've got two other pianos (not players) that I need to get rid of, too,
and they're pretty nice instruments: pre-1915. This is the MMD though
so I'll give more info on those if anyone is interested in them but
this post is only for the players.
