Do you ever turn your discs over to look at what is written on the
reverse projection side?
I am researching Polyphon discs, or indeed any other make, which
have been titled on both sides of the disc. It seems that one title
was printed, but not punched, and the disc was simply turned over
and another title was printed and punched.
I have found the following combinations so far, but I would very
much like to hear from anyone else who has, and the make of musical
box discs which has been labelled twice in this way.
Figure 1: shows the front of three discs; at the left are two
Polyphon 6-inch discs and at the right a Polyphon 9-1/2-inch disc.
Top left: Looking for a Coon Like Me.
Bottom left: 3x98 The Song That Reached My Heart. Julian Jordan.
Right: 6394 Songsters of Spring.
Figure 2: shows the reverse of the same discs
Top left: 3269 Vzdyt jsme jen na svete.
- A Bohemian tune by Celestyn Vyzicka [from 1938 American
- romantic comedy film, "You Can't Take It with You"]
Bottom left: no number on this clearly labelled disc:
- An Old Sweet Greeting, Valse. Gautier
Right: 6406 Polyphon Mazurka (perhaps a demonstration piece
- written by the company arrangers) Bela Flinger
Figure 3: All are Polyphon 9-1/2-inch discs
Top left: 6418 The Seventh Royal Fusiliers, Waltz Militaire. Godfrey
Top right: 6517 A Little Bit off the Top. Murray & Leigh.
Bottom: 6061 William Tell , Tyrolienne Chorus. Rossini
Figure 4: All are Polyphon 9-1/2-inch discs
Top left: 6276 Mein Freund Lindemann. German Couplet.
Top right: 6346 Swara Luti Senkara burnam. Indian.
Bottom: 6403 Scherbelberg Walzer. Fr. Munkelt.
