Re: Automatic Music Digest 95.05.11
By Brian Chesters

Dear Automusicians,
replies to Dave Clark and Mike Jardin.

Dave,
In the UK there is a guy called Melvin Wright, 11 Edendale Road
Melton Mowbray. tel. +44 1664 60666.
He has a machine called a drum reader which reads organ books
of all scales. The info is then stored on disc. and can be
transcribed from any scale to any scale. He then punches up
the organ books. I dont know him and have never spoken to him
but I was given this info by a friend in the fair organ preservation
society. He may be able to help.

Mike.
I take it that the perforations you mention are the "snakebites"
on accentuated rolls. The ones you mentioned are Themodist, Angelus
Pianostyle and accentuated. The Angelus rolls are most likly
88note accentuated however, they did make reproducing rolls as well
but they are rare in the US and Europe. If you look at your Duo-Art
and Ampico rolls, you will see they have many rows of extra perfs.
and on D/A rolls they have the Snakebites too.

I was quite excited when i found a Red Welte roll in a box of
88 notes to add to my collection of 50 or so red rolls but I was
amazed at the 2000 in the collection in Hungary.

I went to Prague last year and found a red Welte upright with
40 rolls but the man didnt want to sell whilst I was there. He has
since written to me offering them for sale but its too far, and
hard to get our of the Czech republic as the border guards say
'Czech is closed for antiques'

I understand that there is a bidding war going on over the huge
collection of 28,000 rolls in Wales. The rarest item is a genuine
Hupfeld Triphonola test roll with factory notes. As I only know
of two in the UK its a limited market.

Well, that enough from me. I must post off my application to take
part in the pumper competition in London at the AMICA visit.
