Re: MBSI Article
By Terry Smythe

Many months ago, I had occasion to tell Angelo Rulli, Editor
of the MBSI News Bulletin, about the wonders of the InterNet
and how it might be used to knit us even closer together. At
that time I shared with him my list of email addresses I had
gathered over the previous year as an example of who was up
on the 'Net and how it worked.

Yesterday, Angelo sent me a draft of an article he proposed to
publish in the next issue of the MBSI News Bulletin. In it
he had transcribed that initial list I had shared as an example.
I discussed Angelo's intiative with Jody and we agreed that it
may not be prudent to publish email addresses without the
permission.

However, the article fundamentally is a good thing, and makes
good sense, so this morning I faxed the following message to
Angelo as an alternative article he may wish to consider
publishing.

Dear Angelo,

Re:InterNet Article

Many thanks for sharing with me your proposed article
about mechanical music and the InterNet. Unfortunately,
somewhere along the way by regular mail, the letter got
delayed and only arrived yesterday. That list that I
shared with you quite a few months ago is now considerably
outdated, a few email addresses have changed, and a few
members have indicated they would rather not have their
names published. Furthermore, the list has grown
considerably in the interim, to something like 70+
like-minded people worldwide.

I would recommend that the article as proposed not be
published at this time, but rather you may wish to consider
the following substitute article which will achieve the same
result. i.e. to encourage our members to consider
communicating with one another via the InterNet.

************************************************************

The Super Highway for Mechanical Music

Over the past year, I have been active on the InterNet and
have met quite a number of people worldwide on the 'Net who
share a common interest in this unique slice of musical heritage.
In recent months, one of the group, Jody Kravitz, in Ramona, CA.,
has kindly taken the initiative to form a special interest group
on the 'Net to help knit us all together. Those MBSI members
inclined to join us on the 'Net are invited to send an email
message to Jody at:

	kravitz@foxtail.com

or a subscription email to:

	automatic-music-request@foxtail.com
	leave 'subject' blank
	1st line of message:

		subscribe automatic-music firstname lastname

That's all there is to it....!
                                     See You On The 'Net!

 [ Editor's comment:
 [
[ I'm delighted by the response that we've received to the creation
[ of this mailing list. The growth from 25 to 75 subscribers in 2 months
[ is amazing to me. I really appreciate Angelo Rulli's interest in writing
[ article about us in the MBSI News Bulletin. Since I posted the survey
[ yesterday precipitated by Angelo's request for the e-mail addresses of our
 [ subscribers, I've already received 15 positive replies. While I wasn't
[ able to provide the requested information in time for this month's Bulliten,
[ the fact that I had responses from 20% of our readers in 24 hours is terrific.
 [
[ There are a few recipients of this list who have great wisdom to share with
[ us who don't type very fast. I hope that we will hear from them some time. I'm
[ willing type transcribe (from a phone call) from time to time if it
[ will help. Please let me know. I'd also like to figure out if there is some
[ way to get some of our non-Internet-connected friends to participate.
 [ Suggestions are welcome.
 [
 [ Jody
