Want to Build an Electronic Roll Reader
By Marc Sachnoff

Folks:¶
I'm trying to ascertain the state (or state of the art) of paper roll reading
digital encoding devices. I've seen Mike Ames set up as well as Wayne
Stahnke's. Both are fascinating.

My goal is to build, buy, create a device that will read with equal facility
all types of reproducing rolls. These encoded MIDI files would then be played
on a Piano Disc or Yamaha Disklavier system.

Has anyone out there created their own reader/encoder? Stahnke's device is
perfect for his commercial enterprise, but way too complex from my personal
needs. Ames' device is more up my alley, but his use of an optical page
scanner may introduce too many variables into what should be (I hope) a more
simple solution.

Any thoughts and ideas. Any others with interest in this area. I'd be
interested in any input on the subject.

Thanks,¶
