I have two projects underway in this area. The first is a hardware/software
system that optically scans standard 88-note piano rolls into MIDI format
at a resolution of 400 ticks/second. As soon as I install a new drive
motor in the scanner, this project will be nearly complete.

The other project (the one I am currently working on) is a software utility
to convert Superscope/Marantz Pianocorder tapes into MIDI files. The
program will accept an 8 bit mono .WAV file of the Pianocorder tape (sampled
at 32 KHz), extract the frame data, and create type 0 standard MIDI
files of the performances. I'm about a month or two away from finishing
this project... So far, I've got valid bit data coming from the .WAV file,
but I'm working on making it more robust before continuing with the rest
of the conversion process, which will be fairly straightforward.

A fellow netter has over 100 Pianocorder tapes waiting to be converted
using this utility, and as an avid player piano/computer music enthusiast,
I'm looking forward to hearing them!
