•We would like to buy an old player piano, but don't know anything about
them. I notice a big difference in prices of the ones I see advertised
for sale. I assume that the condition and the age may affect the price,
but what are the other considerations? Do all piano rolls fit all models,
or are there some pianos that can only take very specific rolls that may
not be as available as others? Are there better or worse makes or models?
What names should we hunt for? or avoid? How much should one expect to
pay for a piano roll? Any help or information would be appreciated.

[ I forgot to mention that a few days ago when the posting requesting
[ a review of definitions of "Ragtime" and "Joplin" was posted. I
[ haven't had time to forward what was posted here to the original
[ poster. If you were one of the respondents, please forward a copy of
 [ your message.
 [
[ Incidentally, the posting about "Ragtime" and "Joplin" generated a lot
[ of traffic on USENET. I manage a large News system and hope this weekend
[ to send out a "special digest" containing a collection of those responses
 [ from USENET.
