Doctors and Music
By Jim Cook

In digest 95.10.02, Dr. Gary Smith commented he was a doctor becoming
involved in music through music boxes. In the same issue, JKeimer reviewed
the QRS [Pianomation] CD for Claude Bolling's Suite for Flute and Piano.

It seems appropriate to note the irony here in that the flutist on this
recording is Jean-Pierre Rampal. Many years ago, the television shows "60
Minutes" did a feature on Rampal. It is interesting to note that Rampal
graduated as an M.D., but he chose being a flutist for a career.

On the other hand, in college I knew a girl from Western Mass. whose father,
Dr. Mark Purinton, started out going to college as a musician. When that
didn't work, he became a doctor.

Takes all types, I guess. :D
