MBSI Bulletin Nov Dec 95
By Bill Chapman

I enjoyed your letters in the bulletin. Larry, I too, enjoy mechanical
things (it showed even as a 4 year old, and I have never overcome it).
I hope that the MBSI or Amica will enter the 20th century by aligning
with computers. One thought that I had, however, is that if the net
overtakes the bulletin for advertising, the revenue may drop as the ads
contribute fairly well to the $$ for the org.

[ Editor's Note: There are 4 MBSI "officials" that I know of that
[ read this mailing list. At least one of them knows what the "WEB"
[ is. I think your concern will be given some thought.

My thoughts are that the a users group might really benefit
from a lost or orphaned parts department where users could list
stray parts of pianos and music boxes. It would be a chore to
keep up, but who hasn't chased down a lot of false leads
looking for parts? I think the internet costs would be cheaper
than the gasoline I've used.

   [ Implementing a "subscribers-only" classified ad section
[ would be pretty easy. Kind of like a 900- number dating
[ service. You could leave ads for free but have to pay for
[ the replies, or vice versa. Given the way the Internet
[ works these days there would have to be good value added
[ or someone would just start a new news group: alt.old.parts!
[ Pleeeez don't go off and do _THAT_ just yet.

Jody, rolls and literature are a natural for the newsgroups.
Wouldn't it be fun if people scanned their rolls for Duo Arts
and Ampicos, etc and uploaded them to the users groups. I for
one plan on interfacing my piano with the computer.¶
YES, l think there should be a usenet or www site for MBSI
and AMICA.¶

[ I now have anonymous ftp working (129.91.163.1) for all our
[ articles. No WEB HTTP services yet. I'd _LOVE_ to have
[ something to do with an archive of piano roll material.
[ If we were to do that, we'd have to have some technical
[ discussions about what format the data should be in. For
[ those of us with real instruments to play them back on,
[ its probably best to have the expression holes as MIDI
[ "note events". For those of us with synthesizers, its probably
[ best to have the expression converted to MIDI velocities.
[ Anyone want to start a thread of discussion on this, or is
   [ it premature ?
   [ Jody
