A few issues back, someone was inquiring about making new cobs for the
Roller Organ.  A few years ago one of the members of MBSI was considering
doing this project but I never heard any more about it. I have lost his
name, but I think he was in California.  Over the years, a number of us have
looked at this project, but all have put it aside.  I went as far as getting
the patents on the machine that manufactured the cobs.  I looked for it last
night, but can't remember where I filled it.  The patent is very instructive
on how they did the job.  They used a master roll that was three times the
size of the finished cob.  In the master, they inserted pins to indicated
where the pins would be driven into the wooden cob.  This template drove a
nailing machine that was fed from a coil of wire.  When a pin was driven
into the cob, it was cut off at the proper length.  The top of the pin was
cut flat while the free end of the wire was cut at a bevel so that it could
be driven into the cob.  The project hinges around a simple nailing machine.
