Electric valves
By Horst Mohr

Hello editor,¶
first let me thank you for putting me on the mailing list.

The electric valves we used for Dr. Hockers grands are built by Dr. Tenten
and I suppose, he will write something about it. My work was the software
and the way how to energize the valves.
Just let me say, that I recently played a grand of Dr. Hocker via MIDI from
my keyboard for testing purposes. With the pumpmotor of the grand switched
off, you can hear a light "clicking" of the valves. Not very loud, as the
housing is inside covered with felt and a kind of tape is glued between
core and armature. When the pumpmotor is active, so that the piano plays,
you can hardly hear the "click". But as we talk about musical instruments
there is still something to do to make that little noise absolute unhear-
able. ( How to silence the motor and the roll mechanism ? ;-< )

BTW: 88 notes are played with MIDI in ca. 80 milliseconds or ca. 60 ms in
running mode but never really together at once :-).

I tried to send you a uuencoded "rondo alla turka of W.A.Mozart" but
mail refused. Tomorrow I'll try again.

Best regards, h. m.¶
