DMM (German) AMI articles
By Rob DeLand

Hello everyone -

I sent a private letter to Hans Schmitz last Dec. 2nd re. 3 articles that
appeared in DMM, the German AMI collector's magazine. I'm posting this
note to the list to raise my questions to the general public.

Issue #1: I want to drive a project to have some of the best articles
that appeared in DMM translated to English and published either by MBSI
or AMICA. Three articles I found interesting were these:

The Phonola (by J. Crgen Hocker / DMM #57 Feb. 1993 pgs. 14-26)
Ludwig Hupfeld (by Hans Schmitz / DMM #58 July 1993 pgs. 16-39)
The Phonola (by J. Crgen Ehlers / DMM #60 May 1994 pgs. 38-41)

Issue #2: I am interested in locating any and all information published
on Welte, particularly pianos (the Mignon). I understand there was an
article written by Hans Schmitz published in DMM; does anyone know which
issue(s)?

To publish a translation will require (1) permission by the appropriate
people at DMM; does anyone on this list know who that might be? I'm
afraid Hans is a very busy person and not likely to answer my letter very
soon; (2) someone to translate the articles - I figured I'd either try to
recruit someone on this list, or try to get my AMICA chapter to foot the
bill (we have some funds that could probably be made available for a
project like this); and (3) a decision by MBSI or AMICA to publish them,
possibly involving a reciprocal agreement to make some similar info.
available for DMM to publish. Here I'm going out on a limb because I
have not spoken to either Angelo Rulli (MBSI) or Robin Pratt (AMICA)
about any of this.

So, back to square one: does anyone on this list have access to the
proper people at DMM to get this going? Anyone have any suggestions on
how best to get these translated? Anyone know when Hans' article was
published, or if there are others? And finally, Robin, what are your
thoughts? (I heard through a 3rd party that Angelo had already been
contacted about this by another individual; maybe I simply have to sit
back and wait for someone else to do this!!).

If anyone has read this far, I thank you for your patience with me and
another of my brainstorms!

Cheers,¶
