Howdy,  I would like to introduce myself.  My name is John Seden and I work
at the Art Institute of Chicago where I am also a student in video and
sound and photo. I am an artist and experimental musician.  I work with
found objects [READ: Trash picker ;> ] and am into DADA and chance
operations,John Cage, free improv music and machines in general. (I also
collect vintage cameras, projectors, tape and wire recorders, 78's &
players etc.).

I recently found a machine (in the trash behind a church) made by Deagan
for ringing the bells in the tower of the church.  This machine seems to be
similar to a player piano (compositions are played on paper rolls).

I am looking for any info that I can get on this machine or machines like
it.  Someone recently told me that this type of machine would be connected
to a "carolon" (SP?) a type of keyboard.  All I have is probably the brains
of the thing. There is a large cable with many small color coded wires (I'm
sure these are the triggers for the notes) but I am not sure which are the
power leads (cable was hacked off) because there are two wires, black &
white wrapped in shielding(?) and two white black and a red (not shielded)
all in the middle of the bundle of small wires.  This probably plugged into
some type of transformer first. (?)

If anyone knows, please pass on the info; it will be greatly appreciated.

I assume that this is the same Deagan Co. that I have been reading about in
these pages lately.  This will add another chapter to that Deagan mystery
that M. Caulfield has been puzzling over :)
