MIME Encapsulated Files in Email
By Horst Mohr

Hello,¶
I want those, who had trouble when receiving MIME encrypted mails,
to share my last experience on this subject.

A friend sent me a mail with a MIDI-file added. His mail program
is capable of MIME. It encoded the MIDI-file automatically.

My mail reader is UUPC on DOS. I could read the plain text, but
not decode the MIDI-file. In the header stands:
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64

I got the DOS program MIME64 and did as follows:

Copy the mail into an empty directory giving it the name mail.spb.
Give the command: mime64 mail.spb
The answer was: Creating _xxxx.mid

Then I loaded -xxxx.mid into my sequenzer program and looked at it,
because it was not meant for playing.

That's all, hope it helps somebody, h. m.¶

[ Editor's Note: Horst, It is encouraging to see that a simple
[ procedure can be applied to the saved mail file. I did a quick
[ Web search and discovered a MIME64 program on a mirror of the
 [ hobbes.nmsu.edu archive:
 [
 [ ftp://www.cdrom.com/pub/hobbes/print/mime64.zip
 [
[ Is this the right file ?
 [
 [ Thanks, Jody
