Disklavier/PianoDisc Compatability
By Erik Siverson

Speaking as a new participant in this group, and new to the Internet in
general, I find it exciting to be in this network of automatic
instrument enthusiasts. By way of introduction my name is Erik
Siverson. I am a piano technician by trade, but not really a player
piano specialist. I have a 1922 Steinway Duo-Art grand, and a Yamaha
Disclavier.

As a technician I have learned to service, adjust, and trouble-shoot
the Yamaha Disclavier instruments; but the processing of MIDI data,
file types, and compatabilities, is still to me a "black art". I admire
the knowledge of Wayne Shahnke, Robbie Rhodes, and others, and am
starting to glean bits of understandable information from them with
every installment of the Digest.

I have a some basic questions:

Can anyone tell me if PianoDisk software and Disclavier software is
compatable. I understand that Disclavier instruments read "continuous
pedal data" for variations in pedal stroke while PianoDisk reads only
"pedal on, and pedal off". In other words: will PianoDisk disks play on
Disclavier systems? If not, can the be converted somehow?

Is it possible to transfer Disclavier files over the Internet to other
users?

Does any one know of any Disclavier related sites on the Net?
