Re: My New Cylinder Box
By Brian Chesters

I went to collect the large musical box I bought on the phone last week. It
was 450 miles away near the bottom of England.
I have a Mercedes 300SL convertible but it wouldn't fit in the boot (Trunk
in the USA)so We put the seats down and it just fitted on the back seats
with the front seats uncomfortably close to the steering wheel. I need a
bigger car.

[ I will cheerfully trade my wife's Ford F150 pickup truck for your Mercedes...

Well I am very pleased with the box. It is about 3feet wide and has a double
spring driving a cylinder which plays six engraved bells, engraved drum,
castanetts and a fifteen note organ. There are two delightful dolls which
dance to the music. The movement is nickle plated and appears to be
untouched with no evidence of being messed with. No damage to any part of
the movement or case. I cant believe that no little girls have been allowed
to play with the dolls for the last 110 years.
I will recover the bellows if I decide to keep it. Normally, I only like
early cylinder boxes especially keywound Nicols, but I like this one.
All the best from the UK.
