Translation to/from German
By Steve Vance

There have been a few messages recently that seem to point up the
need for language translations between English and German. I saw
that there is a company that sells software to do crude
word-for-word translations. Maybe we could all contribute a dollar
or two, and Jody could buy a copy for use on articles of this
digest. I don't have the company's name, but their phone number is
800-535-5256 or 714-223-0620.

 [ Steve,
[ You may remember the anecdote regarding an early English-Russian
[ translation system. The input was "The spirit is willing but the
[ flesh is weak". The output was (essentially) "The Vodka is good
[ but the steaks are terrible".
 [
[ I have an English-to-Spanish translation program written in
[ San Diego, where they should know about such things. I was
[ not particularly impressed. It might be an interesting
[ experiment. The Spanish translation program was << $100. If
[ you are up to calling them, I'd be interested. I'd be _REALLY_
[ interested if they would take one of our articles and translate
[ it for us as an experiment.
 [
 [ Jody
